Couch to 5K Day One

Today I accomplished something I haven’t done since gym class in the 9th grade. I actually ran…by choice…and without being chased.

For some reason I decided about 10 years ago that I wanted to run the Peachtree Road Race in Atlanta. I lived in Atlanta for 28 years and never even started to train for it. Now, here I am at age 32 and pure coach potato gearing up to be able to run.

I really have a love/hate relationship with running. On one hand I believe that running should only be done if I am being chased by something that will cause bodily harm if it catches me– but on the other hand I am fascinated with the idea of being fit enough to run several miles without feeling like I want to pass out. I started the Couch to 5K program today.  I am only supposed to run 3 times a week and this week consists of alternating walking for 90 seconds and jogging for 60 seconds for a total of 20 minutes. Yes, I still felt like I was going to die when I jogged for 60 seconds…but somehow I have no aches or pains this evening and on top of that I feel really good. This sure beats being tired and worn out at the end of the day.
